Buh-Bye Doomsday, Happy New Year !

Dear reader,

Happy New Year!

As Alfred Lord Tennyson wrote:

"Ring out the old, ring in the new,
Ring, happy bells, across the snow:
The year is going, let him go;
Ring out the false, ring in the true."

We wish all your dreams to come true in this new year!

Now that we have survived the widely reported Mayan's doomsday, what next? Don't relax, the next doomsday prediction on the internet is for 2830 when the earth is expected to implode! So, what happened? Why the doomsday did not occur? Read more from the IndUS Network's eMagazine's 2010 April article "Year 2830, What is the significance?". As it logically sounded, Mayans stopped creating calendar beyond 2012 for some reasons known only to them. A modern day researcher studying these artifacts came out with his own interpretaion of the reason behind this action - end of the world. What ever the reason was, our capitalistic society took advantage of this doomsday interpretation to create a movie, t-shirts, hats, doomsday and post doomsday (survivor) parties. If Mayans have been able to predict the end of the world then they would have predicted their own demise through Spanish invasion. Bottomline, we had a worst apocalypse! Let us hope year 2830 apocalypse does not fizzle out like 2012!

Year 2012 saw its own ups and downs. Arab Springs are slowly turning into reality with many countries returning to democracy. 30th Olympics and Para-Olympics was successfully completed. Fiscal cliff in US is averted. Global economy did not worsen and grew at a very small rate. 20 Children and 8 Elementary school teachers lost their life to a rampaging gun man at Connecticut. Hurricane Sandy devastated North East US, 6 people died at Wisconsin's Sikh temple shooting, 17 people died at India's Chhath festival stampede while 32 people died in Costa Concordia wreck.

Pomp and Peagent continued in 2012 ...

2012 marked 60 years of Queen Elizabeth's reign. Elizabeth II came to the throne on February 6 1952, with her coronation taking place on June 2 1953. England celebrated this Diamond Jubilee occassion with pomp and peagent. A reported 10.5 million pounds was spent for this celebration. This expense in addition to the expense for hosting the 30th Olympics. Sounds like a novel financial stimulus plan for the country!
