Namib
Sand Sea, Namibia
Namib Sand Sea is the oldest, uninhabitated desert in the
world. The desert covers 10 million acres and stretches
1200 miles along the Atlantic. Usually covered with fog
for 6 months, the fog provides the primary source of water
for this desert. The remaining 6 months are known for its
sandstroms and makes it a top storm watching destination.

newest Wonders of the World
Recently,
United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization
(UNESCO) announced its list of World Heritage Site (also known as
Wonders of the World) for 2013. In its 37th annual session at Cambodian
capital Phnom Penh, UNESCO added 19 new sites to the World Heritage
list, a top honor for monuments, buildings, sites or natural features
of "Outstanding Universal Value". Over a period of 2 year,
UNESCO wilts through a tentative list of 1575 sites from 172 countries
to a manageable 40-50 nomination list. Each submitted site should
have an outstanding universal value and must meet at least one of
10 selection criteria categorized under Cultural and Natural. The
selected sites gets guidance and financial support from UNESCO for
its preservation. This year 34 sites were short-listed for consideration
and 19
sites were added to the world heritage list in June 13. Our
own Jaipur forts has found a place among the 19 and let us hope
Indian politicians take advantage of this recognition to preserve
the monument and promote tourism.
