Looking forward: Happy New Year!

Here we are, marking an end to another calendar year and moving into a new one. As any other year, 2010 had its own moments.

We had a successful 2010 FIFA world cup conducted first time in South Africa, a coalition prime minister was formally elected for Iraq, the Democratic congress lost it majority, the TEA party gained momentum among the conservatives.

In US, we had a double dip recession economy (denoting or relating to a recession during which a period of economic decline is followed by a brief period of growth, followed by a further period of economic decline). In Europe it was about the huge reduction in government welfare programs and the civil unreset that followed such reductions. Hope the economic situation improves in 2011.

Haiti's earthquake, Chilean earthquake and Indus floods marked few of the sad moments during this year. Iceland's volcano Eyjafjallajokull became popular this year after it spewed ashes into the sky and halted the Atlantic air travel for multiple days.

On the sports arena, Tiger woods lost multi-millions and his number 1 ranking. In baseball Detroit Tigers pitcher Armando Galarraga lost a perfect record when the umpire Jim Joyce called it imperfectly. In basketball, LeBron James had a big backlash when he dumped Cavaliers. In football, Colts Mohamad Massaquoi's head concussion highlighted the injury prone nature of the game. In Soccer, Spain won the FIFA world cup for the first time. In cricket, Sachin Tendulkar scored the 1st ODI 200 and crossed his 50th Test century to keep his lead on records. MS Dhoni became the highest paid cricketer when he signed a $42 million (210 crores) endorsement deal for 3 years. Take note: Sachin signed 180 crores for 3 years in 2006. So a revision is due for Sachin.

Looking forward, I am sure every one of you will be taking a nice holiday break, jotting down your memories of this year and preparing for few new year resolutions to be accomplished next year. We would like to wish all our readers a very happy, prosperous and successful new year. Keep in mind, only 1 in 10 (or 12%) succeed in fulfilling their new year resolutions. There are several techniques you can adopt to accomplish your resolutions. A simple technique suggested by psychologists, after studying 3000 individuals over a period of year, is very interesting. They discovered that a man who have a detail plan for his resolution and a women who have shared her resolution goals to her known social network were mostly successful. So if you are a man, plan your new year resolution with enough detail and if you are a women start telling your resolutions to every one around you. Let us know whether it worked for you at the end of 2011 :-)

iPhone 4!

iPhone 4 made lot of news this year when early adopters reported dropped calls. Apple supplied a free casing to placate the customers. However, this did not stop the British Jeweler designer Stuart Hughes to design a jewelled iPhone 4. This phone priced at $8 million was made with 500 diamonds and has a platinum navigation button which itself contained a 7.4 carat pink diamond. It has 500 diamonds lined around the steel band and has 53 diamonds on the Apple logo. There were only 2 phones made and no news on who is owning it or whether it is dropping calls. Imagine calls getting dropped after spending $8 million! Be happy that you did not buy it :-)
